CV and career advice

CV and career advice

Are you looking for CV and career advice?

We are regularly approached by people who are actually looking for CV and career advice rather than the services of a recruiter, and sometimes candidates need lots of help with their CV. This is actually beyond our usual day to day remit – we are paid by our clients to find candidates for their roles and to source the right people and whilst we’d love to help with more career and CV advice, that’s not commercially viable or the best use of our time as super busy recruiters.

We do regularly run a CV and LinkedIn Workshop for marketing, PR, creative and digital professionals. The next one is on the 25th March, in Bristol – do take a look and book a place if you’d like to come.

We are also always looking for ways we can add value to the recruitment experience for our candidates, and so we like to offer referrals to people who can help with your CV, and also offer coaching regarding job seeking and your next steps if that would be helpful. Take a look at their websites and LinkedIn profiles and see who you feel would be best placed to help you.

CV and LinkedIn Workshop – remote one to one sessions, via Zoom or phone

CV and LinkedIn Workshop – remote one to one sessions, via Zoom or phone

CV and LinkedIn Workshop – a virtual event! One to one sessions by Zoom or phone – on a date to suit you!

In this workshop Liz Gadd, Co-Founder and Recruiter at Moxie and Mettle, will share with you useful hints and tips gained through 30 years experience placing freelance and permanent marketing, PR, creative and digital professionals.

Liz looks at CVs, LinkedIn, direct approaches, and offers general hints and tips about how to get the right work for you. It’s real-world career advice with plenty of knowledge to share about what it’s really like and what really works in finding freelance work with clients and new permanent or contract job opportunities.

You’ll also learn how to create a perfect 10-second introduction when talking to prospective clients and new potential employers.

Who is it for?

Candidates looking for new freelance opportunities or a new permanent or contract job in marketing, PR, creative and digital professions; it’s suitable from entry level right the way up to senior roles.

What will we cover?

  • What potential new clients and employers are looking for in applications and approaches.
  • How to find and meet the right people.
  • How to find and approach the decision-makers.
  • Some honest facts about salaries, day rates and charges.
  • Views on flexible hours, remote working and part-time working patterns and how to approach this subject with clients and employers.
  • CV and Linked In review and feedback

Where, when and what’s the cost?

For obvious reasons, this event will now be by Zoom or phone, so it’s an opportunity to have a one to one session with Liz, rather than in a group.  You’ll get the full course, with the workbook, just in a slightly different format!

Due to the current situation, we’ve decided to offer this programme with no set charge.  We’d love you to make a voluntary contribution to The 401 Challenge (see below), but of course understand that things are very difficult for lots of people at the moment, so maybe you could do that later in the year.  No pressure from us or 401!

Your donation goes to The 401 Challenge,  to help the amazing Ben Smith raise the funds for the USA Challenge.  Ben will be running 50 marathons across 50 states in the USA, cycling between each one and all this in 104 days! During this epic challenge, with the help of schools, organisations and individuals all around the UK and further afield, Ben is aiming to raise £1million for two charities – The 401 Foundation and the Youth Sport Trust, supporting their work which uses physical activity to improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Previously, Ben ran 401 marathons in 401 days, finishing in October 2016 and raising over £330k for anti-bullying and mental health charities.  Ben was recognised after his 401 Challenge and awarded many accolades including Pride of Britain and BBC Sports Personality Helen Rollason Award in 2016; you can see his story here BBC Sports Personality. Moxie and Mettle support Ben and the 401 team through pro bono recruitment, PR support and fundraising.

The 401 Foundation

The 401 Foundation

We are super delighted and proud to be supporting The 401 Foundation and incredible USA Challenge. We’re doing some recruitment for them as well as some general fundraising. We at Moxie and Mettle are doing as much as we can to support them – it’s an amazing cause and Ben Smith, founder of 401, is just awesome!

In 2015, Ben ran 401 marathons in 401 days raising over £330k for anti-bullying and mental health charities. Ben was honoured with the Helen Rollason Award at the 2016 BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity. He also won the ITV Fundraiser of the Year at the Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.

Ben will be running another 50 marathons across 50 states in the USA (and cycling between each one!). Ben will be aiming to complete the 14,001 mile adventure in just 104 days, during 2021.

During this epic challenge, with the help of schools, universities, organisations and individuals all around the UK, in the USA and further afield, Ben is aiming to raise £1million for two charities – The 401 Foundation and the Youth Sport Trust, supporting their work which uses physical activity to improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

We are raising the money and the resources for the team to go to the USA, and in the meantime trying to find sponsors and support for various parts of the Challenge, hence this post!

We have a dedicated PR and media relations team who will be maximising every possible opportunity to create national and international publicity, both in the US and the UK, around the Challenge and its sponsors and partners. Brands and businesses who join us from the outset will be featured in all our media activity, programmes, events, on the websites and on social media, so the potential for newspaper, radio and TV coverage around the challenge, and those associated with it, is huge.

And of course the benefits for young people through the work of The 401 Foundation are powerful and hugely beneficial; it really is the most amazing charity and does really great work!

Any help you can offer would be hugely appreciated!

Contact Liz Gadd – liz@moxieandmettle.co.uk if you’d like to get involved, thank you.

Recruitment Strategy Review

Recruitment Strategy Review

Liz Gadd has been working in creative, marketing and PR recruitment for 30 years, and is the Co-Founder of recruitment company Moxie and Mettle.

As a fellow Bristol Media member and preferred recruitment supplier to Bristol Media, Liz offers a one day recruitment workshop and review for all Bristol Media members at a vastly discounted fee to the usual cost.

Liz will spend a day with you, working through all your recruitment policies and procedures, helping with job descriptions and advertisements for roles, advice on best practice and the best way to use jobs boards and social media to attract talent, how to best work with recruiters and any other recruitment related challenges and questions you might have! The day is partly face to face at your offices, and partly remote support, and can be entirely tailored to your needs. Oh and just to be clear, there is no obligation at all to appoint Moxie and Mettle as a recruitment consultancy, this is purely an advice and support session.

Mention A Mate recommendations for rewards & gifts

Mention A Mate recommendations for rewards & gifts

Recommendations and referrals are so very important to all businesses, and we are no exception…⭐️

When you socialise with your friends, one of the topics highest on your list is your job. “How is it going at work?” “Did you get that promotion?” “How’s your new boss?” – we all chat about work at times.

At Moxie and Mettle, lots of lovely people recommend us all the time also, to friends who are looking for a job, to their company management team when the business is recruiting, and we are very grateful.

We are also super happy to say thank you, with shopping vouchers, iPad Minis, and hotels/restaurant bookings all on the list of rewards!

There are some very simple terms that we just need to send to you, so if you are interested in our “Mention A Mate” programme, please let us know! And thank you!

Email: hello@moxieandmettle and title the subject ‘Mention a Mate’

We love recommendations!
