Working from home…

Working from home, loving it? Hating it?  It seems it’s here to stay for the foreseeable, uncertain future as this BBC article details; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54413214

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of working from home, I always preferred to be in the office with my team, I like the feeling of dressing for work, leaving home life behind and stepping into a different energy that the office provides.

During lockdown I struggled to be as effective as I could have been and couldn’t wait to return to our socially distanced Clifton office, but since we’ve been asked to work from home wherever possible, I seem to have turned a corner and have embraced home working.  But why?  Maybe I’ve just accepted this is the way our lives have to be so I’ve adapted accordingly, maybe because of my new “desk tray” set up and and an improvement of our ‘phone software.  Or maybe it’s just because I get to sit next to my gorgeous puppy all day!

What are your thoughts on working from home indefinitely?  Juggling table space with a partner, missing the interaction of a team, spending too much time within your four walls, constant Zoom calls?  Or maybe you’re working more effectively; cutting out the commute, the noise and interruptions from colleagues, saving money on travelling, lunches and coffees? Pros and cons for many people…

How are you making it work for you?  And do you think you’ll enjoy home working indefinitely?

“More home working is likely to be a permanent fixture for a majority of businesses, according to a study.A survey of just under 1,000 firms by the Institute of Directors (IoD) shows that 74% plan on maintaining the increase in home working.More than half planned on reducing their long-term use of workplaces.A smaller survey of bosses whose firms had already cut workplace use suggested 44% of them thought working from home was proving “more effective”.”

Ps – this isn’t my home set up, nor my dog!  I wish I had this much space!
